Lost and Found

Reclaiming a Pet

We hope we can reunite you with your missing pet! Don't delay checking the shelter for a lost animal. It is up to the owner to come to the shelter in person to check for your pet. Nobody knows your pet like you do!

How long will my pet stay at the shelter?

  • The minimum stray hold in Campbell County is 3 business days
  • If your pet has an ID tag or microchip, we will extend the stray hold to 5 business days

After the stray hold, animals become property of the shelter and can be put up for adoption or sent to a rescue, so be sure to check with us every other day until your pet is found. Sometimes pets can turn up at a shelter long after their owners have stopped looking!

What do I need to bring?

  • Proof of pet's current rabies vaccine or a receipt for a pre-paid rabies vaccine from a veterinarian of your choice.
  • Reclaim fee of $45 for the first day and $15 for each additional day

Any donations are appreciated to help with the care of dozens of pets we reunite with their families every year!

Surrendering a Pet

If you've found a lost pet or can no longer care for a pet that you own, we want to help. Give us a call to see what options are available. (423) 566-8018.

TNR

Not all outside cats need to come to the shelter!

  • Many outdoor cats are living happily outside, as either a feral cat, a non-owned cat that is fed by one or more caretakers, or an owned cat that spends some time outdoors.
  • Less than 5% of shelter cats are ever reclaimed by an owner. Lost pet cats are actually much more likely to be found in their own neighborhood than in a shelter.

If the cat looks healthy, it likely does not need to be taken to the shelter. But that's not to say that nothing can be done. Roaming cats can harm wildlife, spread disease, exhibit nuisance behavior and contribute to overpopulation. Bringing a roaming cat in for TNR (Trap, Neuter, Release), is a humane way to reduce all of these consequences.

 How does TNR work?

  • Borrow a live trap from the Campbell County Shelter
  • Catch your roaming kitty and bring it to us to be fixed, vaccinated, and ear tipped
  • Return your roaming kitty to where you found him or her and enjoy less nuisance behavior, fewer unwanted kittens, and healthier animals.

The fee for TNR is $50. Please call 423-566-8018 for more information.
