Volunteer Coordinator
Days/Times: Any day of the week, any time between 8am and 6pm
Location: Some work must be done at shelter, but some can be done remotely
Main tasks:
- Identify the shelter’s volunteer needs and create position descriptions
- Proactively recruit and train volunteers
- Assign and review work assignments for volunteers
- Respond to volunteer inquiries by email and phone
- Communicate volunteer opportunities
- Identify and resolve volunteer related issues, conflict, and performance concerns
- Manage volunteer schedule database. Schedule shifts, trainings, and orientations. Ensure profiles are complete.
- Data entry of volunteer stats and monthly reports of volunteer hours
- Cultivate relationships with the animal welfare community, other non-profit organizations, student groups, animal services and community advocates in efforts to recruit new volunteers
- Coordinate volunteer appreciation, engagement, and retention
Time commitment:
- 2-10 hours a week (will vary)
Surgery Day Volunteer
Days/Times: Tuesdays, any time between 8am and 4:30pm
Location: Clinic – 749 Towe String Road
Goal: Assist our spay/neuter with surgeries of 10-30 public animals
Volunteer roles:
- Instrument Prep:
- Cleaning surgical instruments and equipment
- Assemble sterile surgical packs
- Cleaning surgical instruments and equipment
- Surgery Setup Assistant:
- Assist in preparing for day’s surgeries
- Surgical Release:
- Greet clients when they come to pick up animals
- Work primarily with the public to assist with the surgical post- operative instructions and discharge of animals
- Provide all needed supplies and instructions to clients
- Greet clients when they come to pick up animals
- Vaccine/Testing Clinic Assistant:
- Assist with client paperwork
- Prepare vaccinations and other medications
- Assist with client paperwork
- Cleanup Crew:
- Assist with staff closing cleaning duties to prepare for next week’s surgeries

- Laundry
- Sweeping
- Mopping

Time commitment:
- 8:00 – 12:30 or 12:00 – 4:30
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Complete volunteer orientation
- Shadow a staff member for first two shifts
- Long pants or scrubs, closed-toed shoes required
- Stand for long periods
- Bending, stooping, & occasionally lifting and carrying up to 30 lbs
- Exposure to bodily fluids and animal smells
Social Media Coordinator
Days/Times: Any day of the week, any time between 8am and 6pm
Location: This position can be done remotely and at the shelter
Main tasks:
- Promote adoptables and create engaging social media posts
- Keep our Petfinder page up-to-date
- Keep social media pages current and engaging by featuring positive outcomes and replying to public comments
- Work with shelter director to respond to negative comments
Time commitment:
- 2 hours a week
- Experience maintaining a Facebook page and photographing animals required.
- Good written and communication skills.
- Willingness to review Facebook page daily for possible questions or comments that require replies.
- Ability to visit Campbell County Animal Shelter, as needed, to gather information on new animals available for adoption.
- Access to home computer and internet.
Reception Volunteer
Days/Times: 8am -6pm Monday - Saturdays, Sundays 9am-noon and 6pm-9pm
Location: Campbell County Shelter - 749 Towe String Road, Jacksboro, TN
Main tasks:
- Check in with staff to learn of specific needs
- Greet each visitor to the adoption center and explain adoption process
- Answer phone, take messages, answer simple questions
- Respond to voicemails or online inquiries; transfer to staff as needed
- Ensure a pleasant atmosphere for visitors
- Assist staff as requested, including but not limited to:
- `Making copies
- Filling adoption folders
- Stuffing envelopes
- Shredding documents
- Data entry opportunities available to those with computer skills

- Shifts are 4 hours each. At least one shift weekly.

Shelter Sidekick - transport volunteer
Days/Times: Any day of the week, any time between 8am and 6pm
Location: The shelter, 749 Towe String Road

- Pick up animals and transport animals to or from shelter, veterinarian, outside adoption location, or other events.
- Follow safety guidelines during transport and practice safe vehicle operation to ensure safety of the animal.
- Provide appropriate food, water, shelter and medication as applicable.
- Follow arrival guidelines for appropriate animal care area.
- Run other shelter errands as needed

- Time and location of needs will vary. Volunteers will be notified via email or phone when opportunities are available.
- Opportunities range from regular, weekly needs to one-time needs.

- Must pass driving background check and complete all necessary steps to be added to FCCA insurance

- Dishwashing pet bowls and rinsing and recycling cans and jars
- Sweeping and mopping of designated areas
- Office cleaning and organization
- Lobby cleaning and organization when appropriate

- Special projects as assigned (re-organizing areas, deep cleaning, etc.)
- 2 hours per day for 2-3 days per week
- Ability to walk, stoop, bend and lift

Foster Coordinator
**veterinary medicine background preferred**

- With the input of the Shelter Director, establish standard operating procedures for the foster program and ensure all volunteers are trained and adhering to the SOPs.
- Collaborate with the Shelter Director to prioritize animals that need placement in foster homes. This includes regular communication about the availability of foster homes.
- Field and respond to all inquiries about the foster program, screening potential new foster homes and processing foster applications.
- Create and maintain a database of all volunteers in the foster program.
- Provide ongoing guidance and support to foster homes. This can include: training, providing supplies, giving standardized medical and behavioral advice, emergency care support and also helping to maintain the morale of foster home program volunteers.
- Ensure that photos are taken and kept up to date for the animals in foster care.
- Maintain supplies needed to support volunteers in the foster program, ensuring all foster homes have appropriate medical and care supplies.
- 2-10 hours a week (will vary)
Qualifications/Requirements:
- 2 years of previous experience managing and recruiting volunteers
- Experience in veterinary medical care environment
- Strong people, communication (written and verbal), time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to consistently meet deadlines and must have excellent attention to detail.
- The ideal person for this would be a team player, professional, positive and be able to get along well with a variety of people.
- Must be able to handle sensitive and confidential situations.
- Ability to professionally advocate Campbell County Animal Shelter positions on issues.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands.
- Excellent computer skills including experience with Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, presentations, Google programs and volunteer databases. Must be comfortable learning and using online information systems.
- Resourceful, roll up the sleeves attitude. The successful candidate must have the initiative to resolve problems and seek answers independently and enthusiastically demonstrate flexibility to persist until goals are achieved.
Dog Field Trip Volunteer
Days/Times: 8am -6pm Monday - Saturdays, Sundays 9am-noon and 6pm-9pm

- We welcome volunteers ages 14-17 without a driver’s license if joined by a parent/guardian.

Court ordered volunteers are required to pay a $75 (non-refundable) fee to cover their T-shirt and background check. FCCA reserves the right to refuse any court-ordered volunteers for offenses not listed above.
